Pre-Archaeological Investigation by Integrating Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Aeromagnetic Surveys and Soil Analyses

Magnetic surveys have been widely used in archaeological field investigations. However, conventional survey methods are often restricted by complicated conditions and ambiguities data interpretation. In this study, a novel magnetic system was designed for pre-archaeological investigation (preliminary prior to the excavation) based on modified quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) successfully applied an area with complex landform Huizhou, China. Results show that target anomaly identified UAV aeromagnetic corresponds well location of potential site. Subsequent soil analyses further confirm value results provide strong constraints interpretation anomalies.
